Is Apple Really Better?
Created by Eric Cola and Ryan Kelly.
As an English assignment, my class was asked to pick a technological topic (determined by my teacher) and create a video tutorial, teaching students about the topic we picked. My partner and I chose Apple and decided to explore why it is so successful.Source: vimeo.com
Perkiomen School PBS Commercial
This winter, I had been given a burdening task to create a commercial, being that I was known as: the school’s video guy. Upon hearing of my acceptance to Syracuse University (my top choice) I was ecstatic to tell my film teacher the news. I told her how I found out and how i reacted: I was in a movie theatre and began shouting and celebrating. That was when it hit us. What if we make a commercial that shows students’ reactions to being accepted into their top colleges? And that is just what we did and even used the stories students have of how they found out. Special thanks to Corin Brena for helping to arrange everything, Tim Miller for getting some of the shots, Naial Casanovas Mack for the aerial shot, and the actors and actresses. The music was created by me.Source: vimeo.com
The Cultural Revolution of the 1960’s
The 1960’s marked an important turn as far as culture in America becuase of various reasons. This is a history project I created about counterculture in the 1960’s. Using various clips, and songs, I narrated the paper that went along with this and edited the clips to go along with the narrations.Source: vimeo.com
Sand Tiger Shark Fishing
This is a video of a Sand Tiger Shark my cousin caught off the coast of Cape May back in the summer. We tagged the shark and then released it so scientists can learn more about this species of shark. I decided to include this project because it was a unique opportunity to film a shark being caught and I had to take into consideration the lighting, all the people that were on the boat, and the rocking of the boat. I hope I can do more projects like this because it is what I am interested in doing.Source: vimeo.com
Perk, from Above.
This photo was taken with a hexacopter under the control of my peer, Naial Casanovas Mack. We were given the task to film and photograph our school’s campus from above. With Naial controlling the hexacopter, and me controlling the camera mounted to the hexacopter, we produced this image.
Life at Perk
I was given a project last year to create a video for the school website that would depict student life at my school. I looked at different school videos and they all had a common characteristic: they were boring, long, and did not show anything that would appeal to a student. So I decided I would make a video that would appeal to students from all around the world. I collected footage from events that were happening all over campus and worked with my teacher, Mr. Fidler, who was the host of the video. I had everything I needed except an ending. So I came to my film teacher and told her an idea but we would never have time to complete it; but as second part of our exam, we were going to finish the project and use the students in my class to complete the shot. After editing, I was very satisfied with the final product, and the Headmaster of my school agreed to having it featured on the website. This project alone helped me to develop as a filmmaker. I learned that i have to be thorough when planning projects, I have to have good communication with the people involved, and if I try hard enough, I can make any project possible.Source: vimeo.com
The Effects of Water Pollution
Our film class was given a project in which we could create any kind of video, but it would have to have meaning or a message being conveyed. After recently collecting footage of coastal beaches, and a river study for Environmental Science eminent, I decided to make a documentary about Water Pollution. I interviewed my Environmental Science teacher and he explains the causes and effects of Water Pollution, emphasizing the difference one individual can make if they do something as simple as throwing away a plastic bag at the park. I am including this project to show the variety of work I have done and the different types of shots that I can film. Marine wildlife interests me and I hope to have opportunities to film more videos like this.Source: vimeo.com
Web page for Perk’s Carnegie Centennial Celebration featuring a video which I edited.
Omaha Beach: Then and Now
With this video, I was given the opportunity to create an advertisement for a trip to Europe featuring a visit to Omaha Beach by my history teacher. He knew that I was the person to ask for video making at my school. My teacher had this brilliant vision of using ambience and pictures of present-Omaha and Omaha during the D-Day invasion. I took his idea and made it into a video which has a powerful impact thanks to the ambience. The video was shown to the whole school during an assembly. I am including this project in my portfolio because it is an example of one of the many projects I did working with a client, and I learned about the power of ambience.Source: vimeo.com
Carnegie Library 100th Anniversary
Built in 1913, the Carnegie Library holds a variety of books, magazines, history, and most recently, technology! Alumni from Perk recall their memories of the library before the renovation, and their reactions after it. I am including this project because I was able to experience working with a client for this video and the school showcased the video on the website and at the Centennial Celebration.Source: vimeo.com
